so yong and i got inked at 2am on wed morning. on top of the surrealism of doing our tattoos at such an ungodly hour, we were prancing up and down the hallways of far east plaza with our improvised dance steps. well done artistes. i’m sure we’ll do a fantalog (sic) drunken interpretation soon, not forgetting our human pyramids.
i replaced my ram sticks and hard drive in my macbook pro before heading out for miami ink. everything runs fine except the casing (near my trackpad) doesn’t close properly. PANIC.
if you’ve a santa rosa / penryn macbook pro, READ THIS before dismantling according to ifixit.com (via extremetech forum). ifixit is well-documented but written for older mbp models. you’ll need to take note of 5 additional plastic tabs near the front ledge - those will give you problems when removing the upper casing. i had a near seizure when finally after 20 minutes of gentle wriggling a case that would not come loose, i lost it and snapped the casing off. but those loud snaps are supposedly normal, so well done to me.
YOU’RE NOW READING THE BLOG OF PROUD OWNER of
+ a sweeeeeet glossy canon printer (IP4500, the ideal SOHO solution which is capable of printing dvd/cds *the sole reason i bought it*),
+ 2 sticks of kingston 2gb ram (hunted for corsair/crucial high and low but no shop stocked them, the one shop which did quoted a ridiculous $86 for a “mac-compatible” corsair; so i’m taking my chances here), and
+ a 320gb hitachi hard disk.
the only thing left is for me to procure the tools - a #00 phillips screwdriver, a T6 torx screwdriver and i’m ready to give my baby bijoubijou an internal makeover. RRRRAWWWR, i’m your friendly neighbourhood handyman!
here’s bijoubijou (flickr set) a year ago in her virginal glory.

i was in a foul mood because i must have known subliminally that i had to work through the night.
this morning on the mrt ride as i delivered the product to the client, my knees buckled in sleep for like 8 times. i sleep as i stand. would have been truly embarrassing if i had really slumped to the floor.
signing off, beady eyes.
in a foul mood and no, it’s not pms.
straits times interactive rolled out a new look today.

it distresses me some. first impressions.
- colour scheme leaves much to be desired. ochre and turquoise and red. maybe SPH is trying for a trendy makeover, but for a site whose primary function is to deliver news, i like PLENTY OF WHITE SPACE.
- in terms of placement, why devote an entire middle space to “blogs”, “razortv” (which immediately starts playing upon page load, that’s annoying), “stomp” and ad space before giving us headlines for various sections on money/tech/lifestyle etc. these are soft news or public conversation - not what i’m looking for when i’m visiting straitstimes - and are better left to aggregator blogs like tomorrow.sg etc. what happened to prioritising space and editorial prominence?
- scroll to the bottom for news sections on money/tech/lifestyle. the differing column lengths gives wasted space. the layout screams lazy to me. columns can be simply leveled out by limiting the number of headlines for each sections, eg. 5 each.
it’s pretty shoddy. i preferred the old look which had plenty of white for reading, and looked and felt concise.
i’ve always liked new york times.
i think there’s some sort of rehearsal going on for national day below the flats. SOMEBODY STOP THE BLOODY DRUMMING! sheeesh.
